-Photographed at the Rijksmuseum- The museum of the Netherlands, in Amsterdam. 800 years of Dutch history, with the great Dutch masters as Rembrandt, Vermeer and Van Gogh. I was wondering around this beautiful museum and came upon this wonderful composition of people. The master's work in the background and in the middle ground two spectators viewing intently. The person on the left leaning in to the other person to have quite conversation. In the foreground two people seated near each other going about their daily business viewing a cellphone and reading. I love the way the cellphone eliminates the woman's face while the overhead lighting beams down on the gentleman's reflective head. Also, l love the way the light surrounding them falls into shadows. 4-Ply Mat Colors

8-Ply Mats
The mat opening is cut on an angle, creating a beveled edge around the inside. The thickness of the mat board, or ply, determines the size of that beveled edge. Standard mats are 4-ply, and we offer a thicker, 8-ply mat in select colors for a more refined and elevated look.

Sandwich Float To reveal the edges of your artwork, you can float it on top of the mat. Change the Float Margin to adjust the amount of matting shown on each side. The artwork will be pressed between the glaze and the matting (hence the "sandwich"). If you are framing at home, the matting will arrive with pre-configured, double-sided tape strips to help you position the art. |

Elevated Float Mount Spacers inside the frame create a 1/4" air gap between the matting and glaze, and your artwork floats 1/8" above the mat on an archival foamboard lift. This creates a dramatic shadow around the edges and creates the illusion that your artwork is literally floating. When we frame for you in our studio, we'll dry-mount your piece so that it lies perfectly flat and smooth (this will not damage your artwork, but cannot be reversed). When framing at home, the pre-installed lift comes with double-sided tape strips to help you position the art and secure it in place. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Level Frames' materials archival quality? +
Yes, and unlike many frame shops, we don't charge extra for it. Archival (or conservation) framing uses materials designed to protect artwork from acid, UV light, and moisture damage over time.
Every Level Frames order includes acid-free conservation backing boards and matting from Crescent, as well as Tru Vue framer's grade acrylic as standard. You can upgrade your glaze to 99% UV-protection, Non-glare or even Optium Museum Acrylic.
What is giclée printing, and how is it different from standard printing? +
Giclée printing creates a fine art print using a specialized, high resolution inkjet printer. We combine that with premium paper options and archival pigment inks that produce richer colors, deeper blacks, and more precise detail than standard photo printing. The result is a high quality print designed to last for decades without noticeable fading.
How much space will the frame take up on my wall? +
After you Select a Print Size from the range of available options, you can customize the frame to your exact liking. The outer dimensions of the frame will then depend on the width of any matting you add as well as the width of the profile you choose. Right beneath the Finalize button, we will display the outer dimensions of the frame as you customize, and will show you these measurements in your cart before checkout as well. These dimensions should be accurate to within 1/4" of the final framed print we deliver.
