The release, a part of Swift's effort to regain control of her masters following a 2019 dispute, was announced during her Eras Tour's final Los Angeles show. Embracing 1980s synth-pop, this version features upbeat synthesizers and percussion, including the original 16 deluxe edition songs plus five unreleased tracks. Produced by Swift alongside Jack Antonoff and Christopher Rowe, with contributions from Ryan Tedder and others, the album also offers extended editions with additional re-recorded tracks.
